What is needed to accelerate Brazil’s socioeconomic development?
  • A broadly-shared vision of where the country should be going and how to get there
  • Something similar to the developmentalism of President Juscelino Kubitschek
  • “50 years in 5” – and what should be the slogan for the next Brazilian president?
  • We propose a competition to chose a slogan which can help moblize the country’s energy
  • But a central axis of the new development strategy should be e-development
6
What is e-Development?
  • e-development is more than e-government
  • It involves the intensive use of ICT to accelerate socio-economic development
    • In the information society;
    • In the knowledge economy, promoting competitiveness and reducing transactions costs
    • Permitting lifelong education and training.
  • In the next slide we will see how broad the concept of e-development is.
